Monthly Meeting

Paratroopers of the Space Coast Chapter of the 82nd Airborne Division Association meet the 3rd Saturday of each month at VIC's Italian Restaurant & Pizza, located at 1140 U.S. 1, Sebastian, FL 32958-4147. For more information, please call (772) 589-0275.

 

Meeting Dates

 

January 19th:

Meeting was called to order at 1:13 p.m. Prayer was given by Chairman John Gaynor followed by pledge of allegiance.

Minutes of December meeting were read by Linda Pugh.  Thomas Lucas made a motion to accept and Clarence Young seconded.  Motion was approved. Treasurer’s report was given by Carl White. Clarence Young made a motion to accept and John Dias seconded. Motion carried.

Chairman John Gaynor did a brief welcome to all members and guests and he recognized Past Chairman Ed Britt.

 

Old Business

Carl White made a motion to hold off payment of the website for $180.00 maintenance as he discussed some concerns with it.  After discussion, it was approved to hold off payment until the concerns had been dealt with.

Chairman John Gaynor discussed the lack of members at the meetings. He was sorry to see the no shows after having talked with several members who had said they would come.  Hopefully this will improve with the move of meetings to Brevard County.

New Business

Vice Chairman Javier Molinares suggested that the Chapter put on a Festival in November. He thought we could have paratroopers from the sky diving school from Titusville. Someone mentioned using Port St. John’s American Legion Post 359.  Javier said we might be able to get helpers from schools and possible other Vets involved.  He will continue to work on this and gather more information for later discussion.

Linda brought a new fundraiser to the table.  She shared how it would work and the members approved it to start in February.

Carl White made a motion that the Space Coast Chapter gives honorary members of the chapter the right to vote on Chapter matters except for voting for officers.  Ed King seconded and motion was approved.

Chairman John Gaynor requested that the Chapter make several people Associate members. After much discussion about the difference in associate, honorary, and regular members he changed his request to honorary membership.  No vote was taken at this time; however, Secretary Linda Pugh did take the mentioned names and put them on mailing list for the future.

Bill Fuller suggested that at the next meeting, the Chapter have a microphone if possible so everyone could hear well.  The chairman said they would try.

Ed Britt discussed the Chapter’s help with Vets at Christmas time and talked about the Victory Store in Indian River Mall which needs volunteers to help.

Next meeting will be at VFW Post on 4206 Dairy Road in Melbourne on Feb. 16th at 1:00 p.m.

 

Carl White made a motion to adjourn and Tommy Lucas seconded. Motion was approved and meeting was adjourned at 2:25 p.m.

Additional Information

 

John J. Gaynor had a small ceremony after the meeting and was presented with the French
Legion of Honor with Degree of Chevalier by Mayor Kathy Meehan.  Several friends and family
members were present during the presentation.

 


February 16th

Old Business

John Gaynor said he had talked with Karen about the charges for the website. Carl White made a motion we pay Karen the 75.00 for the hours and notify her of the desire to close the website.  Clarence Young seconded. Motion carried.  Kathy Ogle said she could do the site for 3.99 a month and Javier will give Kathy his password for his domain.

Carl White made a motion to make the 6 men John Gaynor had introduced at the last meeting honorary members of the Chapter. Ed Britt seconded and motion carried.

Linda brought some copies of the new fundraiser to the meeting.  She shared how it would work and said the “silly tax form” would be open until April 15, 2013.

Linda brought up the Anniversary Dinner for May 25th.  Everyone needs to be thinking of where they want to go so reservations can be made.  Decision will be made at March meeting.

 

 

New Business

Joe Arelo made a motion we meet next month at Vic’s in Sebastian and see what kind of turn out we have. Ed Britt seconded and motion carried. Linda will call Vic’s to see if we can meet there. If not, the meeting will be at Golden Corral in Palm Bay.

Richard Pere said that he would talk with members that had left.

Picnic will be on April 13, 2013. Carl White made a motion that the picnic stay at the Riverview Park in Sebastian. Clarence Young seconded and motion carried. Javier and Linda will work on reserving the pavilion. The cost will be around $100.00.

Upcoming events will be All Viet Nam Veteran’s Reunion and Memorial Wall in Wickham Park on April 21-28th.

Linda brought the fact that the 67th Annual 82nd Airborne Convention was looking for chapters to buy ad pages in the convention book.  Ed Britt said that the chapter had done a ¼ page ad in the past. Carl White made a motion that we do one this year and John Dias seconded. Motion carried. Javier will work on the ad.

Linda Pugh shared the fact that District 12 American Legion Auxiliary was doing a WWII Dinner in honor of the WWII Vets.  She took names and will send them in to make sure there is a place for those who want to go.

Ed Britt shared information about the Victory Center in Vero Beach at the Indian River Mall.  He also shared information about Special Forces Organization.

Next meeting will be at Vic’s Restaurant on US Hwy 1 in Sebastian, FL on Feb. 16th at 1:00 p.m.

No motion was made to end the meeting, but it ended at 2:00.

March 16th


Fellow paratroopers of the Space Coast All Airborne Chapter will have the next meeting at the Vic’s Italian Restaurant & Pizza located at 1140 US Highway 1, Sebastian, FL 32958. We will meet on Saturday, March 16 at 1 p.m. (13:00 hours). We recommend you arrive 15 minutes earlier to avoid missing any information from this important meeting.


April (Picnic) 13th

 

We will have our picnic on April 13 at 11 a.m. at Riverview Park In Sebastian. The Riverview Park is located at 600 U.S. 1, Sebastian, FL 32958. Florida’s 26th Annual Vietnam and All Veteran’s Reunion – April 21, 26, 27, 28 of 2013.
