EDGAR BRITT


CSM
Edgar Britt was born on 12 October, 1931 in Chelsea, MA. On 14
January, 1949, he enlisted in the Regular Army. Then, Britt received
basic training at Fort Dix, NJ with the 9th Infantry Division,
60 FA Bn, and Advance Individual Training (AIT) at Fort Bliss,
TX with the 8th AAA (AW) Bn SP. His first duty station was at
Fort Custer, and Camp Lucas, MI, respectively.
During
the Korean War, CSM. Britt served as an Automatic WPNS Crewman
AAA. Then, he reenlisted to attend Airborne School. After successfully
earning his Airborne Wings on August 1955, he was assigned to
perform duties at the 80th AAA Bn (AW) SP, 82nd Airborne Division
at Fort Bragg, NC. In 1658, CSM. Britt received orders to go to
Germany, and to serve with the 94th and 5th AAA (AW) Bn Sp. After
being reassigned with the 1st GUN Bn, 59th Artillery at Fort Bliss,
TX, he reenlisted for the Special Forces in may 1960, and served
with the group for over 13 years.
During
the course of his career, CSM. Britt carried a huge amount of
responsibilities. The Following are some of the duties performed
as Chief Firing Section, Anti-aircraft Artillery:

Forces Team Sergeant A and B Detachment 1st, 5th, 6th and
7th Special Forces.

ROTC Instructor (Spartian Program) at Florida Souther College,
Lakeland, FL.

Commander Sergean Major with the 78th Eng. Bn, and the 7th
Engineer Bde. in his second tour to Germany.

(1977-1979)Commander
Sergeant Major with the 31st ADA BDE, Homestead Airforce
Base, Florida.
Among
overseas assignments, CSM. Britt served in Germany , and Vietnam
twice, Dominican Republic once, and 4 other classified countries
with the Special Forces Groups. His airborne qualifications are
Master Jumper (1963), Halo (1963), US Navy Scuba Diving Badge
(1962). After a remarkable military career, CSM. Britt retired
at Fort Bragg, NC. on 31 October, 1981 with the 3-68 ADA (IHAWK)
Bn, 18th ABN CORP.
Presently,
CSM. Edgar Britt is the chairman of the Space Coast All Airborne
Chapter of the 82nd Airborne Division Association. He is also
a member of the American Legion, Post 189, and has active membership
in the Son Tray Raid Association. He has been happily married
to his lovely wife Helen for thirty seven years. They got married
at Fort Bragg, NC. The Britt's have two daughters and one son,
seven grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. His working
hobby is in intarsia and mosaic wood workcraft.
